Propecia started appearing in market around January, 1998, after Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval a short time before.
Propecia is an FDA-approved prescription pill proven for the treatment of male pattern baldness. Propecia, also known as finasteride, is the first oral medication to be approved by the U.S.
How Propecia works:
Propecia works by inhibiting 5-alpha reductase. 5-alpha reductase is an enzyme which converts testosterone into dihydrotesterone.
Propecia is available in 1mg tablet. Tablet contains 1mg of Finasteride, a drug originally used to combat prostate cancer in men over 50. The study shows that those who used Propecia often experienced increased hair growth. Propecia is just the brand name of a different version of Finasteride specifically prescribed to combat male hair loss on the crown of the head or the mid-scalp area.
Do women can use Propecia?
No.
Although Propecia has received rave reviews, there are some downsides of this pill. One of the biggest ones is the fact that it can only be used by men.
Precautions issued with the drug say that this medication is for men only.
Study has proven that 9 out 10 men show some re-growth of hair 3 to 12 months after starting Propecia.
